Steam Therapy

Steam Therapy has got an important place among the various aspects of natural medicine. In this therapy, the water steam is subjected  to a particular part or whole body of patient and the patient is thus benefited from various ailments.

Methods of  Steam Therapy (bath)

Simple home made procedure or instrumental procedure can be adopted for steam therapy.

1. Simple method (home made):
First the patient is asked to sit on a chair and s/he is covered with a blanket to avoid escaping of steam .From any of the corners, steam is released inside the blanket but care should be taken not to release steam directly over the naked body.The procedure can de done for around 5-15 minutes.Then patient is asked to come out of the blanket and take a bath with luke warm water.Then s/he should take a rest covering him/herself  with a warm blanket foe a while.

Caution: patient should not directly be exposed to cold air.

2. Instrumental method:

These days, modern equipments to perform steam bath are available. Such instrument contains a box with open upper lid to take head portion out. There is an inlet for steam in the lower portion and a thermometer is adjusted to measure the temperature . the patient is asked to stay naked inside the box with head out of the  upper open lid. Steam is released inside the box for suitable time period as recommended by the physician.

Local and systemic steam bath

Local steam bath:
A special type of instrument called nadi yantra is used for local application of steam. Various ailments like arthritis, gout, sciatica, inflammations, body pain etc are relieved.

Systemic steam bath:
Whole body is acted upon by the steam for appropriate  time interval inside a well designed instrument.

Benefits of steam therapy
1.    Perspiration is increased which results in the removal excess and unwanted substances like NaCl, urea, uric acid etc
2.    Blood circulation to the treated area increases healing the pathologies of those areas.
3.    Various toxins are removed from the body and body is purified.
4.    Patient feels lightness in the body and gets relaxed.

Rhinitis, cough, eruptations, asthma, heaviness, ear and throat problems, headache, sorethroat, facial palsy, paralysis, gastrointestinal problems, constipation, whole body pain, jaundice, urinary problems, arthritis.

Chronic alcoholism, pregnancy, haemorrhagic disorders, pitta prakriti persons, diarrhea, diabetes mellitus, inflamed anal region, obesity, thirsty, anger, general debility, decreased immunity.
