Syzygium cumini

Scientific Name: Syzygium cumini
Englsih Name: Balck berry.
Nepali Name: Jamun
Sanskrit Name: Jambul


a large evergreen tree, leaves opposite, 8-20 cm long, leathery. Fruit 1.5-4 cm long, violet black on ripe. Seed usually one. Fruits are waten raw with salt, make tongue purple for hours.

it can be found upto 4000 feet.

Parts used:
Fruits, leaves, seeds and bark.

Phenols, terpenes, glucodiede called jamboline, Gallic acid, oxalic acid, malic acid, citric acid, vitamin A,B,C, starch and a green dye cyanidin diglycosides.

Medicinal Properties:
Astringent, stomachic, diuretic, anti-diabetic, and, anti-diarrhoeal.
It can be used in Diabetes, sore throats, indigeston, loss of appitite, leucorrhoea, bronchitis, asthma, ulcers and dysentery. It is also blood purifier.

Juice: 50-100ml
Bark powder: 5-1 gm
Seeds: 1-3gm
