Asava and Arista (Fermented preparations)

The word Asavas means the preparation that helps to extract the active components.  Arista means the properties of a drug that enables it to remain without decaying and losing its effect for a long time. Asavas and arishtas are liquid preparations. They are alcoholic solutions containing all the active ingredients of the drugs of which they care compounded.  Thus they contain water soluble as well as alcohol soluble substances of the drugs. They differ from the official sprits which are merely alcoholic solutions of essential oils.

Asava and arishtas differ from each other owing to their difference in method of preparation.
