A grand Ayurveda mela “Ayur-expo 2009” is taking place on August 28 to 30 in Nepal. Dr Raman Bhattarai president of Nepal Ayurveda Medical Student Society, Said, “It will be a great gathering of national and international ayurveda organizations, stakeholders, companies for three days.” He also added that multinational companies like Dabar and Himalaya Drug Company are collaboratively working with NAMSS to make it a grand event. Ayurveda is the traditional system of medicine in Nepal practicing since time immemorial. According to WHO more than 80% of people in this world are still relaying on Ayurveda and other herbal and traditional medicines for their health purposes. In Nepal, more than 80% people are using Ayurveda. Around 1700 species of medicinal plant are documented in Nepal where more than 600 species are actively traded.
Meanwhile, in many developed countries, complementary and traditional medicine is becoming more and more popular. The percentage of the population, which has used complementary and traditional medicine at least once, is 48% in Australia, 50% in Canada, 42% in USA, 38% in Belgium and 75% in France.
Dr. Narendra Giri, General Secretary of NAMSS said, “This expo helps to create an interactive environment for the society to observe, discuss and understand various aspects and issues of Ayurveda i.e. medicinal value, yoga, Panchakarma, conservation of herbs and its contribution to National economy.”
In this expo, ayurveda companies, health home, NTFP related organization, community based herbal products, yoga and naturopathy related institutions are participating.
Free health and yoga camp, documentaries show, herbarium and books display and paper presentation will be the extra attraction on Expo.
