Department of Ayurveda is the apex body for Ayurveda
in Nepal under Ministry of Health and Population which
is responsible for formulating, implementing and supervising
the other units. It was established in 2010 BC. But
it could not move far and collapsed. In 2038 BC, realizing
its importance in country, Ayurveda Department was re-established.
Now, Ministry of Health & Population has
three departmental sub-divisions.
A) Department of Health Services
B) Department of Ayurveda
C) Department of Drug Administration
Ayurveda, one of the major traditional systems in Nepal
is ruled and regulated by Department of Ayurveda. Besides
Ayurveda, other therapies like Homeopathy, Unani etc
are also in practice. Under Department of Ayurveda,
1 regional Hospital, 14 zonal Ayurveda Dispensaries,
55 District Ayurveda Health Centers and 216 rural level
Dispensaries are servicing people out of cost. The central
Ayurveda Hospital, Naradevi Ayurveda Hospital, is now
servicing with all facilities, departments and pathology
lab. In each five regional directories there is a unit
of Ayurveda for supervision and monitoring.
